Public Lecture and performance – Love, Anger and Tragedy: The Brain Basis of Emotion in Music
|February 12, 2018|
|First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Toronto|
A holder of a Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology from the University of Toronto, Beste is joining forces with Dr. Frank Russo from Ryerson University’s SMART Lab for this exciting event, for a second time.
Music is an essential part of human existence, and the emotional response to music seems to tap into something deep and universal. Join us for an operatic and scientific tour de force featuring award winning mezzo-soprano, Beste Kalender and Ryerson University’s, Professor Frank Russo.
In this interactive performance/lecture they will explore the brain basis of emotion in music featuring excerpts from Arias composed by Schoenberg, Bizet, Mozart, Handel, and others. Beste will be accompanied by Geoffrey Conquer, two-time First Prize winner of the McGill Symphony Concerto Competition and the 2015 Siegfried Weishaupt International Piano Competition in Germany.
